Team7 Uses Natural Non-Toxic Wood For Furniture

Our title sounds a bit ackward does it not? A company using natural wood for furniture is somehow unique? Well, if recent trends are any indication, then yeah, it is. While most furniture companies are using MDF or partical boards, Team7 uses natural solid wood. And instead of finishing the wood off with chemical stains, Team7 uses herbal oils and waxes instead.

It's time we give bedrooms some love and no better way to do it, then with natural wood.

MILK Table - A Designer Table

MILK by designer Søren Kjær is a fantastic example of pushing-design. We are frankly excited by its Apple-like lines: slick and smooth. The functionality is also well thought-out with cubies that serve various purposes like storage or display. One example used by the designer is a fish tank inside one of the table cubies (pictured below). Additionally, there is an area to file papers inside the table itself, cable exists, and even a cable drawer to hide away the ugly wires.

Chinese Garden Stool at Wisteria Inspires a Search

I found these Chinese Garden Stools at Wisteria and thought they were interesting. To be quite frank, I didn't know what a Chinese Garden Stool was. I did a quick search and more of them turned out rather than an explanation in the search results. Still, this ceramic light green version at Wisteria seem to have a more modern take than the other Chinese garden stools I found online. I'm going to assume you can actually sit on these even though they look fragile, so feel free educate me otherwise.

Dimensions: 14 inches in diameter by 19 inches in height.
Price: $129.

Alfredo Häberli Modern Pattern Bookshelf

Books are typically stacked horizontally in a very unsurprising layout on your average bookshelf. Alfredo Häberli throws that concept out the window with his Pattern Bookshelf, which is a series of pentagons stacked in different ways and forms. The concept is interesting and it works. When you see the books stacked on this bookshelf it makes you want to explore the contents therein.

The bookshelf is available in 2 flavors: traffic white and silver. Both have black edges and show the milled aluminum.

Price is unknown.

Buy it at Quodes.

Genius Jones - Furniture for the Modern Baby

Is there room for a modern baby? Genius Jones, a Miami-based company seems to think so and we love them for it. Scope out the Cabine Crib designed by David Netto in the picture above. The crib opens on all sides and has a convenient hidden drawer for storage. The side rails are fixed and you can adjust the mattress platform if it becomes necessary to do so. Better yet, the furniture is made out of solid natural oak, you know, real wood, so it should take anything your kid will throw at it. Your eyes might be attracted to the white lacquer that adorns the Cabine Crib, and that's because it is what gives it that modern look.

It is nice to see a company like Genius Jones provide those of us with a more modern modern taste, an alternative to the always-the-same furniture at the big chain stores.

The Cabine Crib is manufactured by NettoCollection and is one piece out of a two piece set.

Microsoft's Surface 'Milan' taking us to the future of computing!

Microsoft has just developed a nifty table... Yeah I know what you are thinking. What's so great about a table, and why would Microsoft do such a thing? Well it turns out Microsoft is revolutionizing the way we interact with our PC's. Sit back and imagine a 30-inch touch screen monitor... Now imagine that same monitor flat on its back. There you go, you just imagined yourself Microsoft's Surface..

So what exactly is Surface? Surface code named 'Milan' is an interactive computer that uses your fingers as its form of input. Thats right no more mouse or keyboard to mess with. This ?surface computer? as Microsoft calls it is loaded with some of the craziest features we have seen yet. Imagine a PC that can see.. Thats right you read correctly. The Microsoft Surface can actually see, no not like a human can see, but it can see objects that are placed on the table, or better said Surface. So why does a table need to see you might ask. Here's where this table gets cool. The table has optical sensors behind the 30-inch projection screen that can recognize objects such as cups, credit cards, phones etc... It's object recognition has to be one of its coolest features, just picture putting your camera and cell phone on the table, and you being able to drag images from one to the other without connecting any cables. How about transferring your contacts from the PC over to your phone. The limits seem endless with a device of this nature. The Surface measures 22 inches high, 21 inches deep and 42 inches wide. It runs on Microsoft Windows Vista and has 10/100 Ethernet as well as wireless 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.

The Surface is already a jump skip and a hop away from being used at Harrah's Entertainment's Las Vegas properties. These properties include Caesars Palace and the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Guests will be able to make dining plans, get show tickets, and keep well informed as to what's going on at all times throughout the day. The Surface will have a virtual concierge to show guests around the hotels and casinos. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. will also be among the few to launch Surface. It will day view at Sheraton Hotels & Resorts initially to be used as a tool for guests to play their favorite music hits, view or send pictures to friends and loved ones, or even order some grub by merely dropping their credit card or guest key card on the table. Finally T-Mobile retail stores will also use Surface?s interactive features to compare cell phones and plans by just placing the devices on the table.

Since the Surface is the first of its kind you can expect it to have a hefty price tag. It is anywhere between $5000 and $10,000 and is set to be out by the end of 2007.

Buy a Sofa That Doesn't Feel like a Steel Plate

I read design oriented magazines. I also drool at the incredibly original furniture featured on those design magazines. But have you actually sat down on some of the "designer" sofas? It feels like you are lying down on a steel plate with sharp needles. And let me tell you, I have no tolerance for discomfort.

Why the long winded introduction? Well, in my recent search for a sofa for the entertainment room, I found a really nice living room furniture set at American Signature Furniture store. The Marlton Stone sofa features low profile arms and espresso-colored legs, and a nice beige tone gives it an authentic contemporary look. The sofa is gracefully covered in extremely easy to maintain and durable micro fiber.

The best feature however is comfort. The loose back pillows melt under the presence of your back and the low profile arms make it very easy to stretch your legs across them. I don't know if you can associate with this feeling, but I love throwing myself on a sofa and feeling completely relaxed after only a couple of minutes.

The sofa retails for $599.99 and back pains are not included.
